A state of mind

I’m really not sure when it happened….but it’s been going on a long time….and I’m sure Y’all do something similar.  When our kids were little…any distance in a vehicle with three rowdy boys and a bullied little girl…was just excruciating.  What one of my boys didn’t think up…the others did.  They were the “typical” ornery country boys….on steroids!!!  In fact, I wonder sometimes, how I got them out of the house with my sanity in tact….and I have friends that will argue that I didn’t! lol   And any mother would probably agree…that even the BEST of friends….cooped up in a vehicle….will fight over the air they breathe.

I remember when I was little…we sang songs…my sister and I and our mother….but this game…does NOT work all that well with boys…try it….but you better have some tranquilizers on hand…and I’m just not that patient.  As technology advanced…things got quieter in our transport…but the challenge to occupy the four of them….was on going.  They read some…but seriously?!!? Have you ever tried to read with three other juveniles sitting arm to arm with you? NOT!!!

As one of the ELITE…vacation challenged, I feel that I have  become one of the most knowledgeable on entertainment for trips. lol  One thing our family does…is Talley license  plates…. We try to find one for each of the states….I’m not sure we’ve ever done it completely….but on our trip to Yellowstone…we found all but two….and we also managed to get two from two different Providences  in Canada!  This time….not so many from the United states…but one from Canada…and believe it or not…one from Kuwait!!! Now….how the heck did that get here!!!???!!!

I’ll never forget when Sara was just a tiny thing…we went to Oklahoma to help my recently widowed grandmother move to Texas…to be closer to our family.  She and my grandfather had lived in the country for forty years or more.  We were all country bumkins…and Dave and I were still living in the country!  Grandmother had chickens….and we didn’t want to abandon them….so between all of us…we managed to get them rounded up…Dave and I decided to just take them to our farm.  Lol Well…the fact that we were taking chickens home…didn’t come to light till we got to Grandma’s.  Now…being the hillbillies we were/are…we would NEVER rent a U-Hall.  We loaded up our horse trailer and it being enclosed…we just stuck the chickens in some cardboard boxes…and poked holes in them.  Some hours later, we decided to make a stop at a KFC for dinner.  Well…our kids had occupied themselves that morning chasing down chickens….so you can imagine what those three boys looked like when we all spilled out for  our first restroom and lunch break. Dave and I…being the animal lovers we are…decided we better check on the chickens..and give them a drink.  We unlatched the trailer gate…and to our surprise….got flogged with the very creatures we were trying to save!!!  Somehow the box had come open and the chickens were all loose in the trailer!  Several of them came flying out of the trailer! lol….luckily (for the chickens….not us) we were in a fairly crowded parking lot…so the chickens kind of funneled toward the building.  So here we were…all in work clothes…our kids looking like orphans…chasing chickens in the parking lot of the KFC!!! LORD! Then after we had caught all but one….we’re all still chasing the solitary escaped Poultry…arms flying in the air…running around hooping and hollering like a bunch of hillbillies….the chicken….flies straight into the drive up window! Good Lord….I really don’t think I could have been more humiliated in all my life!  But of course…no one every died of humiliation….and it’s been a good source of laughter ever since.

What do Y’all do for entertainment on trips?

Love Y’all!

A Bestie

A story about one of my best friends….

Love Y’all!

A Bestie!

My hubby has worked at the same place since before we met…and we’ve been married just shy of twenty-three years. Although he’s worked there all that time….the coordinators have come and gone….until about fifteen or so years ago.  Enter Miss Cheryl.  She and I were cordial to one another…but I can’t say we were “friends”….then about five years ago we started spending more time together when I began to deal with Dave’s expenses. Weekly I would trek our to the plant….and she and I began to realize that  we were alike in soooo many ways.  Our conversations grew longer….and more personal.

Dave and I had just moved into our current house and the yard was a mess….to understate it. I had dug and drug a few of my flowers….but there wasn’t even grass here….it goes without saying…the curb appeal was definitely not what sold us!!!! Actually…it wasn’t the inside either.  To say this place was a dump..is putting it mildly!!!  Anyhoo….

Cheryl has some of the same passions I do….gardening being . I guess it came up that I didn’t have much green and a ton of area….and was missing my gardens.  Well….Cheryl….being the huge hearted…giving spirit she is….lept into action.  Almost every week…sometimes twice a week she would send at least one to three twenty gallon totes home with me…bursting with flowers that she had dug from her gardens! I really think…if not for her…I might have withered that first full summer!  Honestly….I think she might have saved my sanity.  Dave had just starting traveling…Sara just left for college (for those of y’all who don’t know….my baby) and I was really lonely and sad.
As I began to visit her at her home….I could see…that she was indeed the gardener I was.  Not only Did she have a green thumb….but she had style and flare when it came to outdoor decor! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Her yard isn’t huge….but it’s personality IS!!!!

One of her fairy gardens…she has one for each of her grandbabies.

One of Cheryl’s many interesting vignettes…Just so unique

Then a couple of years ago….I finally got the opportunity to partially repay her.  I acquired  a puppy.  Oh…the cutest thing you ever saw.  It was love at first sight! I really wanted to keep her…but I had my dog…my daughters…and my sons dogs.  I asked Cheryl if she could help me find some one to take the puppy. I don’t know if Cheryl knows this…well she does now….butt I had really hoped she’d fall in love with her and take her. I knew she’d lost her dog (of Lord knows how long…years…) Just shortly before this one came along.  It was God in action! It’s amazing how He works. Scout La Rue…..as she would come to be known…needed Cheryl…and Cheryl needed Scout. She took the bait…and they became inseparable! Scout couldn’t have gotten a better Mommy!

Scout La Rue…or Scout About…as I call her!

Scout LaRue’s awesome abode….still in progress…

I guess all this…us why…she’s one of my besties! A better friend…I couldn’t have!
Love Y’all!!
